• The Who: Linds
• The Where: Castilleja School, Palo Alto, CA
• The Link: "Below are more hearts from Casti -- in the '5 C' logo. The Valentine's party was cute. I thought of you and wanted to drop a note to say hi. I just stopped by the blog and I'm so sorry that this is a particularly rough week with your bdays. I actually resonate strongly with a point I heard you making, which is that things can hum along fine and then suddenly you get hit by a wave/tide/whatever of sadness/grief/other-sense-of-loss. I actually find that to be very true of myself... Sometimes, I'm surprised I can function at all when I realize how many things around me catch me totally off guard and take my breath away. People serving in the military, to your post, the orphanage, etc. Some days I can totally handle these things like a 'normal person' (I assume?) and other days it's all way too much for me... I guess my brain can sometimes handle the sadness of life, but other times not. Thankfully, it seems to be wired to see the world as good, but punctuated with hard patches -- versus seeing it as hard punctuated with good patches. I am really sorry that your path right now is filled with so much hard -- I think of you daily and hope that there is a long, long good patch around the next bend in the road."

The love I saw, but I'd missed the hearts... thank you for showing me :) The woman who sold it to me had a funky style, which is why I liked her stuff... the one next to this one is one of my faves: 'Not all who wander are lost.' I try to remember that when I'm a bit too confused or rigid on my path (which happens often).

Heather's heart marks an exciting milestone... Chain-Link Heart Number 100!! When I launched this project two months ago, I had no idea how a collection of hearts that started as a link between me and my son would grow or who it would reach and connect. So far, it's connected hearts and their stories from Sante Fe to Sri Lanka. You've found hearts in the shapes of everything from a tree trunk to an enchilada. No matter where or when or how you found it, you've shared your heart and, in doing so, you've honored my son, given me strength, and shown all of us another side of a heart. Thank you.

It had been my parents 52nd wedding anniversary that evening, and they were not in a position to celebrate like they would normally have done, like going out to a fancy restaurant. I had flown in to attend to their needs surrounding the surgery. In my mother's kitchen, I found a cake pan in the shape of a heart, and made a Polenta dish to celebrate at home. That evening they shared with me once again the story of how they met. It was almost like I had never heard it before. This evening over a shared cornmeal heart still is so very special to me."
