Link 400

• The Who: The Kraus Family
• The Where: Portola Valley, CA, circa 2002 --> Santiago, Chile, circa 2012
• The Link: Our neighbors gave me this Elsa Peretti heart necklace for my college graduation. I hadn't worn it in several years. Then, a few months after we lost Lorenzo, I found it mixed in with the rest of my jewelry. I grabbed it for the beacon it was showing up right then, put it on, and didn't take it off.

I've been volunteering at a local orphanage in order to help hold and feed and entertain babies and young children in need. For two hours in the middle of the day, I forget that I'm waiting, and I hope they forget that they are. The other day, one of the little girls, all of two, was trying to kiss the heart, which she's done several times before. Except this time, she kissed the heart and the chain broke. We looked at each other, equally surprised, and laughed. That has to mean something, right? Ryan thinks so. He thinks it has to mean something that a little girl broke the chain, causing a heart to fall into my hand. He thinks maybe our luck is turning.

* March 19 Update: I just found out that same little girl is getting adopted! Her new family comes to pick her up tomorrow. Oh, all the amazing meaning that can be found.
